After a long trip by plane and car, I’m finally arrived at Sandyrae Farm. Sandyrae Farm is a farm of ninety Holstein, including seventy cows in lactation, situated on the Prince Edward Island, and owned by the MacKinnon family since three generation. The family is composed by Dannie, my trainer, Christine, his wife, Alexander, his son who works on the farm, and Christine Sarah, his daughter who makes agricultural studies for beef cattle in Alberta.
Everyday, I woke up at 4am to milk the cows with Alexander and Calloway, the employee, and I feed the calves. After the breakfast and a rest, I go back to the farm at 9.20am to shovel in the silage of the cows, help Troy, the other employee, to spray fresh straw in the barn of the heifers and the dry cows and feed the calves. After the lunch, I learned to drive tractor, clip cows or stay at home. At 3pm, I feed the heifers and the dry cows, and then, I help to milk the cows and I feed the calves. I usually work during the week, have a day off on Saturday, milk the cows and feed the calves in the morning in Sunday, and go out with Christine and Dannie for the afternoon.
